Murry Brown
Among the most prolific shooters
March 21, 2007

The third article in our series of Florida shooter profiles spotlights Murry Brown.

Murry is a Florida native who has, like many of us, adopted sporting clays as his most favorite leisure activity. Some may characterize that passion as an obsession, however. Mr. Brown has the distinction of being having the most FSCA registered  targets for 2005;  for 2006, among the most prolific shooters again. We're all looking for repeat of those big numbers in 2007.

He shoots a K80 (Krieghoff) and has been at the game  for five years.  In that period, Murry has risen to the AA class and no doubt will be among the ranks of master class before the end of 2007.

When asked what drew him to this sport, he quickly responds, "The good people I meet at the events".  The good people in Florida like Murry a lot too.

Murry and his shooting companions can be found traveling around our state in search of weekend events but he especially loves to shoot at Roney's Okefenokee Sporting Clays in Folkston, Georgia. Maybe the food has something to do with that - just guessing.

While sporting is his primary pursuit, he particularly enjoys the challenge of shooting FITASC and subgauge events.

Watch for Murry Brown at the Florida State Shoot at Quail Creek in April!

Jim and Anna Maria Collins
The number 1 and 2 highest volume shooters in Florida in 2005
June 6, 2006

Sporting clays, as we all know, has many characteristics that make it one of the fastest growing recreational activities in the the U.S.  One of the most captivating of these is the interesting people that you meet at tournaments and fun shoots, like the Collinses...

Jim and Anna Maria Collins shoot sporting and FITASC a lot together.  I mean they really shoot a lot!  In fact for 2005, they were the number 1 and 2 highest volume shooters in Florida.  They are dedicated to the sport in ways that most of us can't imagine.

Since they are retired several years ago they have progressed quickly through the NSCA class system and are currently both in AA class.

Jim has the distinction of achieving Second Team All American Super Veteran for 2006 in sporting Clays and is on course to be All American again next year.  Anna Maria earned the First Team All American Lady Team and she is currently ranked third in the Ladies Division All American for points.

When registering for a tournament, the Collinses never ask to be squadded with a particular person since they like to meet a variety of people.  As a result they have always meet new and interesting groups of people and picked up some helpful information from them along the way.   As for their competition guns Jim shoots a Browning 425 and Anna Maria shoots  Caesar Guerini, both guns with 32 inch barrel.

Jim and Anna Maria shoot all over the country, mostly in the South East and frequent Quail Creek in Okeechobee and Port of the Islands in Naples.

We wish our friends continued success as All American Sporting Teams members!

O
ne of Florida's most prolific shooting couples
Al and Arlene Magdall of Naples
April 27, 2006

Florida shares the honor of their residence with their other home state, Colorado, where they live part of the year enjoying the winter sports and a fishing cabin high in the mountains south of Leadville.

For sure both Al and Arlene love sporting clays and can be seen, happy and smiling as always, at just about every tournament they can get to which is indeed impressive.  Out of the almost 700 registered shooters in Florida, Al and Arlene together have shot almost 16,000 registered targets in 2005 alone and rank 7th and 6th, respectively, in number of registered NSCA targets by Florida shooters.

For sporting clays, Al shoots a Krieghoff while Arlene prefers a Browning over/under. Their passion for our sport emanates from the social camaraderie, their instinctive need for competition and, being outdoors people, the pleasure they get from surrounding nature while shooting courses around the country.

Al and Arlene have been shooting sporting clays for 8 years and are highly respected competitors wherever they go.

Florida sporting clays is a better game for having them as part of our shooting family.
